Exploring Elements of Practice

  • High Jumps
  • - BEN -GURION PROJECT: peer review; numerous revisions; allowing a choice in subject matter; limiting parameters
  • Documentation & Reflection

    • Document: As a "Lead Learner"...
      • What specific shifts are you noticing in your own actions, priorities, language, questions, reflections and conversations that help shape the learning culture for which you strive?
    • Reflect: Documentation & Reflection
      • What's the relationship? What connections do you see between documentation & reflection in your own learning?
      • In student learning?
        • at what cost?
        • to what benefit?
    • Design 1-2 additional opportunities for students to engage in documentation and reflection of their own learning
      • please post a brief description of each opportunity
      • add 2-3 student work samples from each opportunity
      • be sure to note any tweaks, modifications or iterations

  • Activity and student work samples
    • iteration #1 : Ben Gurion Project - Save drafts. Take photos of drafts. Compare drafts. Explain changes.
    • iteration #2
    • iteration #3

Note the pasted captions under the photos- result of peer review
      • photoBG2.JPG
This student laminated the first draft of project having being so sure that there is nothing that could be improved. 2nd, 3rd and 4th drafts were laminated too.
      • iteration #2
  • Students received folders where they keep drafts in the 6th grade. All classes have Google Classroom which keeps their work. All called-in assignments are stored in folders on Google Voice.
  • Questioning

  • Feedback

  • Self-Monitoring & Assessment

  • Reaching Out & Pulling In

Growth: How will I know?

  • How? How often?
  • - When there is a projected growth, process or celebration
  • What? To what degree (details)?
  • - All relevant mediums. Make sure to document the process and not just products.
  • Why bother (in what way(s) has/will your documentation support your ongoing learning)?
  • - See attached below
  • What artifacts of professional and/or student learning might you include?
  • What story will your documentation tell of your journey?

    1. "a supporting piece for the study of self-determined learning–>Heutagogy
    2. a strategy, approach and technique to facilitate learning–> Pedagogy"

"Intentional educational documenting is multi-layered and can serve teachers, students and schools/districts:"

"Teachers

    • to share best practices with colleagues
    • to make teaching available for students outside of classroom hours
    • to inform further instructions
    • to reflect on their own lesson plans, delivery and teaching pedagogy
    • to gather and showcase their teaching portfolio over time
    • to evaluate student progress, growth and for assessment
Students

    • to articulate (via different forms of media) and showcase their learning
    • to become aware of their own learning growth
    • to gather and archive their digital work via E- portfolios
    • to build their footprint in a digital world
Schools/ District

    • to a certain degree in their marketing efforts
    • in parent / community communication
    • to attract like minded potential employees
    • to provide Professional Development
    • provide documentation and examples to linked curriculum maps"
    • a process of intentional documenting serves a metacognitive purpose a creative multimedia expression (oral, visual, textual) a component of reflective practice taking ownership of one’s learning a memory aid curation professional development being open for feedback
