  • Intro - Little girl frustrated (tear coming from eye) by limited creativity in the classroom (insert mock teacher from generic school killing all hope for fun and creativity; shot in black and white on a rainy day). From outside we hear "But wait, there's more...". We are introduced to good teacher in color at MJDS on a sunny day giving the student a fun learning assignment.
  • Slide 2 - Maker-space - student is building a structure out of spaghetti and marshmallows with teacher encouragement. Student smiles and says "I love MJDS because..."
  • Slide 3 - Classroom - younger child and older child collaborating on a project together. Students smile and say "I love MJDS because..."
  • Slide 4 - Outside - older child is measuring the shadow from the tree by the court. Student is actively engaged, with teacher encouragement. Student smiles and says "I love MJDS because..."
  • Conclusion - Ideation Studio - Younger child, older child say "I love MJDS because it allows for endless possibilities for creativity. Ranging from the maker-space room to outside, we are given opportunities to be creative. Thanks MJDS."

Our Big Thinking

Karin

  • Spaces - So many rooms/spaces in our school can be used for learning and creating, it doesn't have to just be a classroom.
  • Culture - There is no such thing as a wrong/bad idea. Encourage thinking further/deeper.
  • Learning Design - Provide choices for learning and creating. Give kids the freedom and trust to do things their way.
  • Other -

Noah

  • Spaces - Within each classroom, what areas should/could be influential in the creativity process? All rooms inside the school can be a creative space, but let us not forget the space of nature surrounding the school to inspire creativity. I think the mental space created via conversation is more powerful.
  • Culture - Encouragement is the strongest factor in creating a creative culture. We if we can encourage students and maintain being positive, we can encourage student exploration.
  • Learning Design - Allowing students to make choices for their exploration and work in a supportive, collaborative manner will encourage additional creativity.
  • Other - What about creative-inducing activities, such as brain teasers or jumping jacks?

What We Wonder...

  • About our topic
    • How can we use these rooms to inspire endless creative possibilities within our students?
    • Did we just do this correctly?
    • Should we ask Roy and/or Sara for help?
  • About our tools
    • What are all of the tools available we can utilize to inspire endless creative possibilities within our students?
    • What technology can we use to create our video?
    • How do we share our video in a meaningful manner with other shareholders?
  • About our teamwork
    • How can we effectively forge a working relationship so we can inspire endless creative possibilities within our students?
    • Is my partner able to be serious the entire project or if I am stuck with a "bad" partner?
    • Are we both going to be starring in the video?
    • Is our relationship sustainable?
    • Are we meant for each other?
    • What happens if one of use finds someone else we prefer more?
    • Are we strong enough to endure the challenges of being together?
