Blogging also allows me immediate communication with parents. I am introducing and summarizing what will be or has been taught on a regular basis. \nThis year Jill and I have a Facebook page that we use to communicate on a more regular basis with parents. This has gone over so well. We get reports back from both parents and children who enjoy even going back and re-looking at what we've done thus far. Our page has expanded to include a couple of grandparents as well which is awesome for them to see what we're doing at MJDS in senior K. If I had more time, I would like to create an online scrapbook for each child of their own personal journey in my class. I would assume it would look like a compilation of pictures\/notes on different skills\/activities they worked on during their year in senior kindergarten. Imagine if they had this every year for each grade! If it is cumbersome or full of acronyms and abbreviations we don't remember, it will be useless. That goes for the data that we collect for the reflections as well. \nIn pure time terms, the benefit is clear: taking those few minutes now helps the students internalize their learning; repeating and reviewing is lessened, I would imagine, by far more time than the time spent documenting and reflecting.

All great things (sometimes not always feeling the "greatness"). As in anything you do, if it's new, it takes time. How much time, depends on how much you're changing, how familiar you are with the new unit\/topic\/piece of technology. Sometimes I feel that people can go overboard with the "new" and the "exciting"... Some of the things we are doing just need minor changes (in which case, the cost wouldn't be too high) and some things are great the way they are (0 cost) while also recognizing that some things need a complete overhaul. If I had a better system, I think reflection could mean something more for me.
